Macintosh Classic

Macintosh Classic

The Macintosh Classic came out in October 1990 and was Apple's first sub-$1000 Macintosh. It was equipped with a Motorola 68000 clocked at 8MHz and came with 1MB of RAM and no hard drive or 2MB of RAM and a 40MB hard drive. The Macintosh Classic sold well thanks to its low price and backward compatibility with existing Macintosh software and wasn't discontinued until September 1992. Unfortunately, time has not been kind to any of the compact Macs, most especially the Macintosh Classic, and it's been a challenge to get and keep this one running. The original hard drive has long since failed, and having had somewhat bad luck with every replacement drive I've tried, I've resorted to using a more modern solution, the ZuluSCSI, which adapts a microSD card to the Mac's SCSI drive interface. I've also upgraded the RAM to the maximum supported, 4MB. Here it is running System 6.0.8 and the classic game Lode Runner by Doug Smith! Please ignore the striping on the display. CRTs are notoriously difficult to photograph. The striping isn't visible to the human eye.
