Operating Systems

If I were to ask you to name an operating system, what would come to your mind first? Microsoft Windows? Mac OS? It may surprise you to learn that the 90s were practically inundated with a veritable myriad of operating systems. The Linux kernel, which became the basis for many modern operating systems such as Android and Chrome OS, was first released in 1991. Other operating systems such as AmigaOS, FreeBSD, MINIX, and NeXTSTEP, may not ring a bell, but each has its place in history and was as much a part of the 90s as Microsoft Windows 95 and Macintosh System 7 were.
